Oracle system preparation on HP/UX 11iv3

Introduction
For Oracle 11g

Installation
Note. assuming /u01 mount point already exists.

Check for architecture, RAM and swap,
getconf KERNEL_BITS
dmesg | less  # search for 'Memory'
swapinfo -a
Note. quoting quick install guide,
Between 1024 MB and 2048 MB   1.5 times the size of RAM
Between 2049 MB and 8192 MB   Equal to the size of RAM
More than 8192 MB   0.75 times the size of RAM

Create the oracle groups and users,
groupadd oinstall
groupadd dba
useradd -m -r yes -d /u01 -g oinstall -G dba oracle
chsh oracle /usr/local/bin/bash
passwd oracle
cd /
ls -alF u01
chown oracle:oinstall u01
Note. don't -R here if it's a mount point, you want lost+found to keep its defaults rights

As 'oracle' user, prepare the environment,
cd ~/
echo '. /u01/.bashrc' > .bash_profile
cp /.bashrc .
vi .bashrc
add,
ORACLE_BASE=/u01
ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.1.0/ora1110
PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch:$PATH
TMP=$ORACLE_BASE/tmp
TMPDIR=$TMP
LANG=C
export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME PATH TMP TMPDIR LANG

PS1='${LOGNAME}> '
alias sql='sqlplus / as sysdba'
alias rman='rman target / nocatalog'
apply,
source .bashrc
Note. eventually define ORACLE_HOSTNAME (fqdn)
As oracle user, upload and extract the archives,
ls -l /usr/bin/X11/xauth
echo $DISPLAY
cd ~/tp
unzip hpia64_11gR1_database_1013_1of2.zip
unzip hpia64_11gR1_database_1013_2of2.zip
Note. unzip -d to define an alternate extraction directory
Note. count 2.2GB for the "database/" directory

As oracle user with X11 forwarding enabled, install Oracle binaries,
cd ~/tp/database
echo $ORACLE_BASE
echo $ORACLE_HOME
./runInstaller
Note. put oraInventory into /u01
Note. you may safely ignore the /tmp space warning, we defined it manually into .bashrc. Otherwise, make sure there 400MB *free space* on /tmp,
#lvextend -L 416 /dev/vg00/lvol4
#fsadm -b 425984 /tmp
Note. as root, copy/paste the expected kernel parameters to some file,
vi kern.txt
parse the latter with that script, apply script's output and reboot,,
grep 'Failed <<<<$' kern.txt | awk '{print $3}' | sed 's/;//; s/^/kctune /'
(copy/paste)
cd /
shutdown -r -y now
Note. shmseg <= shmmni

As root, you will have to execute those during installation,
/u01/oraInventory/orainstRoot.sh
/u01/product/11.1.0/ora1110/root.sh
