Setting up SUN ALOM
tested with Sun(tm) Advanced Lights Out Manager 1.5.4
Setup network & time
Connect to the Alom console either with serial or by telnet.
Note. no hostname nor dns setup available, just sc_customerinfo (customer data) as hostname if you wish.
Eventually initialize and setup the whole thing,
#setdefaults [-y] [-a]
setsc netsc_dhcp false
setsc netsc_ipaddr <IP address>
setsc netsc_ipnetmask <Subnet mask>
setsc netsc_ipgateway <Gateway address>
eventually reset the ALOM for the settings to take effect:
Set the date (you have to use UTC so it won't interfere with the system!),
note. you don't have to provide the full date, just month day hour minute may work
Setup the SMTP relay/smarthost,
note. IP address is mandatory, resolve it first!
setsc mgt_mailhost SMTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS
Define the mail alert, (3 minor contains 2 major contains 1 critical,),
setsc mgt_mailalert email@example.com 2
note. you can add several emails depending on the level if you need.
note. to temove one email (just without the altert level, thanks to utah.edu link),
setsc mgt_mailalert firstname.lastname@example.org
Note. I didn't find any way to test email alert, so you got two solutions,
- unplug one of the PSUs and you will see if you receive it;-)
- resetsc -y which sends an "CRITICAL: SC System booted." alert.
Run the console,
get out of the console,
Power on the system,
Force power off,
Exit the telnet session,
